چکیده

We recently speculated that mitral-aortic separation (MAS) might be increased in discrete subaortic stenosis (DSS). We have examined this hypothesis in 22 heart specimens in which the subaortic obstruction originated on the muscular ventricular septum below the right aortic sinus, either as a discrete band, an accumulation of several bands or a diffuse ridge, and extended posteriorly into the MAS or anterior leaflet of the mitral valve or both, with a variable relationship to the aortic cusps and sinuses. No specimen had ventricular septal defect, supravalvular aortic stenosis or other features of Shone syndrome. The mean MAS

Mitral valve E point-septal separation as an index of left ventricular function with valvular heart disease.

Echocardiographic mitral valve E point-septal separation (EPSS) has been found to be a useful hemodynamic index. Prior studies have shown a high negative correlation between EPSS and left ventricular ejection fraction (EF) in selected patients, but the utility of this index with valvular heart disease has not been examined in detail. Cardiac catheterization and M-mode echocardiographic data wer...

Successful Use of Two Thrombolytic Drugs in Prosthetic Mitral and Aortic Valve Thrombosis

Introduction: Prosthetic valve thrombosis is a rare and severe complication of valve replacement, most often encountered with a mechanical prosthesis. The significant morbidity and mortality associated with this condition warrant rapid diagnostic evaluation. Although surgery is the first-line therapy in symptomatic obstructive mechanical valve thrombosis, thrombolytic therapy has been used as a...

Alfieri stitch for temporary severe functional mitral regurgitation after aortic valve replacement

The outcome in functional mitral regurgitation after aortic valve replacement is unclear. A frail 82-year-old woman with severe aortic valve regurgitation and mild to moderate functional mitral valve regurgitation (NYHA functional class III) was referred to our clinic. In consideration of her frail condition, aortic valve replacement without mitral surgery was performed. She had hemodynamic ins...
